All pvp builds have multiple weapons for each class?
It seems like no matter what pvp build I look at any build above a 3.5 will have you switching between multiple weapons before you cast or use any skill/spell. I can see how this would make that 1 spell/skill more effective, Its similar to what We did in FFXI with Red Mage Black Mage and White Mage. The problem that I see is There are no macros. That you can set up so that As soon as you swich weapons, The spell is casted on the target you have selected so there is a lot of room for error and room to mess up if some of your skills / combos are based off timing and you have to switch especially if you are getting attacked while you're trying to dish this combo out, In a sense it can render you imobil if you're entire combo depends on using some skills in a certain order.
I just want to know is the risk vs the reward worth it with all that weapons swapping. Most of those builds would work decently without it, and that would mean more time / concentration focusing on protecting/attacking and less on swapping weapons.
By the way if there ARE macros like the ones in FFXI with multiple functions linked, then some one plz let me know. Because it would all make much more sense.

It's not necessary but it's rather useful. You'll get used to it eventually. it'll come naturally. At that point you'll do it without even thinking about it, allowing you to focus on other things such as your foes' casting/movement/whatever patterns.
PS. Nice avatar.

The biggest problem with Weapon Switching in GW is aftercast.
Sometimes you're switching weapons, but because of after cast from running (Yes, running) or skills, it doesn't trigger, so U have to repress the button. This can be highly annoying, as sometimes you're waiting up to 5 seconds to make sure you're in the right set.
Wether or not it's worth weapon switching:
Yes.
At the end of the day, a 2 second recharging spell is better than a 4 second recharging one. ( Just for the second of having it recharged)
With spells such as [Spell Breaker], which are often located in prot bars (Ha mainly), you're really better of switching to a Divine set, as you might get the 50% faster recharge. (Which helps alot with Spell Breaker)
And then simply switch back to prot set.
IF you notice that you're "loosing" time because of weapon swapping, then it is suggested you don't do it. It is, however, better if you can do it, for reasons mentioned above.
No, you won't die if you don't do it, but try, try harder and try hardest. Weapon swapping is one of the most basic "skills" you will need to learn in high-end PvP, unless your name is Signet Mesmer and you a lolwtf bar, so you're best off learning it as early as you can...
Some advice: Try and use the "Cancel/Interrupt Action" button before every swap. This way, you make sure it WILL go through every time, as you're cancelling your current action, to make sure U won't suffer aftercast...

I recognise that it can seem a bit clunky when you first start doing it, Im in a similar position, having only just started to realise the use of switching to a defensive shield + spear. I dont usually play as a caster so I can't imagine how hard it must be to start switching between casts.

There are macros that let you switch weapons for certain spells (for example hitting a 3 also triggers the F1 key or hitting a 4 triggers the F2 key, thus switching weapons). However, it makes it so you can't use your high set, which is arguably the most important of the 4 sets to have.
